Why is 2k13 so bad

Thanks for the great review!! Thanks, glad you liked it! I find some of the animations and graphic elements relative to presentation very cheesy. One thing I wish people would be more critical of is the lack of attention to detail to the venues, amongst other things. Some of the courts are outdated, wildy innacurate, and the stadium graphics are just too generic.

Fair call. The arenas should be accurate as possible, I agree. Other than that, I guess some details have fallen by the wayside.

It should be easier to block players shots going to the basket. And CPU offensive rebounding is well… offensive. A team should not be able to grab 3 or 4 straight offensive rebounds.

Have you ever been able to block a dunk or layup? I can only ever recall forcing an altered shot. I guess timing has a lot to do with it. But the one shot that annoys me that never gets blocked is the underhand scoop shot or finger-roll. I really like you review. I hate it that its almost impossible to stop block someone dunking or to block a layup.

I love pc games and dont own a console. Price point of games is very interesting on the PC but to not allow an All Star Weekend feature for pc users is pretty lame.

There must be a way in order for us to be able to bully them into getting one sorted. It mmustnt be too hard for them to put it together Thats a guess but could be totally wrong. While it may have a lower price tag, we are still paying customers and the infrastructure is in place to provide the same features as the consoles.

Great review. In my opinion, that didnt improve this year experience and gameplay. It was inevitable he was going to be heavily featured and as I said, they went a bit overboard on the style. Release Date. NBA 2K13 Review. What did you think? Have you played NBA 2K13? More Reviews by Ryan McCaffrey. Twelve Minutes Review. The Ascent Review. Set in suburban Chicago in the late s, the story centers on ten-year-old Jake Doyle's Fegley herculean quest to get the latest and greatest video game system for Christmas.

The film is based on the novel by Kevin Jakubowski. Until now, I had never played a basketball video game that forced me to sprint back on defense. That is awesome. This is clearly the best gameplay ever in a basketball video game. For years, 2K Sports has been the master of presentation in sports video games. This year, the presentation goes more Hollywood, or should I say Brooklyn.

It starts from the intro when you pop in the disc. Check out the Shawn Carter-infused welcome for gamers:. It's not as if all of the songs feature Jay-Z, though quite a few do.

The videos to the songs are incorporated during pregame hype videos. If you don't like Jay-Z or the other featured artists, you can turn off the music. It might leave things a little bland, though. The music is really a soundtrack to everything you do in the game.

From a pure basketball sound and presentation standpoint, this games has its ups and one down. However, there are more instances where great plays deserve more hoopla, yet they are ignored or understated. The opposite end of the spectrum occurs at times as well, as some basic dunks send the commentators into an inappropriate frenzy.

That is really a shame considering NBA 2K12 was so good in this area. The bar is just set so high, and that dynamic has set up a slight fall-off. Even with that decline, the commentary is still better than most sports video games available.

The in-game visual presentation is done very well. I love the variety of broadcast camera angles. Every arena has its own unique default view, and it accurately emulates the camera placement for each building. The replays are great, and the in-game footage shown while looking at the game stats is a nice touch.

One personal gripe I have is the inability to remove the orange circle from beneath players' feet in replays. It handicaps montage-makers, but 99 percent of gamers won't care about that. This is an isolated issue that only affects us YouTubers. Alternate uniform options have been expanded. I love the inclusion of the Phoenix Suns jersey from the mid-'90s. Now I just hope the old Phoenix Suns team is made available via downloadable content.

The main one is separated into three sections: My Player, Exhibition and a Quick Start option for the last career-type mode you played. It seems easy enough to follow, but things like this can be purely based on style preference.

The menus are very busy and in constant motion, but I like that. It keeps things vibrant, and it meshes well with the soundtrack. The Jay-Z influence is a plus on the presentation, and the camera angles and overall in-game look is sharp. However, commentating is a huge part of this category. I love the My Team feature. The RTTP mode gives you a set number of games to play to ascend from a squad sitting on the outside of the playoff picture to a No.

These details make the mode more than a cheap imitation. There is also a stock market feature for players that adds an interesting twist. Players and attribute boost are designated as gold, silver or bronze. The better the player or boost, the higher the designation. Thus, the Virtual Coin value required to purchase him can fluctuate.

Here is a video of the initial rollout of players, boosts, jerseys, coaches and a My Team game:. The Virtual Coin concept can be a little confusing. This is important to know because VC is a major part of every mode in the game. The VC is stored online in your profile, which is a little scary for me. My Player has evolved into My Career, and it is huge this year. This has become perhaps the most popular mode in the series. There are now three different personas that your My Player can appear in.

However, you do earn more VC based on how well you perform. This is a cool role-playing theme in the mode.

If you get an interview with a team you want to play for, then try to pick the best, and most attractive response. Allen Iverson is back in the game, but if you want to build a successful My Player you must practice. You do this in the form of a variety of drills. There are some new exercises this year, and they are all pretty entertaining and helpful. Completing these drills earn you—you guessed it, VC.

The amount depends on how well you do. That is assuming you chose to use the VC to upgrade your My Player immediately. My Player is so huge this year. It includes cool attires for the three different looks you can sport.

Be sure to build your player's skills before you start going hard after swag. Once you are a legitimate star in the virtual NBA, you can start dressing and acting like one. Your skills are on the infant level and forcing the issue will lead to turnovers, mishaps and a low teammate grade for the game. Start spending some of that VC on attire, rituals, and other things to get the most out of the experience. Have a sit-down meeting with the GM and demand or suggest player personnel moves.
